Gothenburg Hifishow started in the early -90s by the Hificonsult store with its founder Olle Mårtensson as the leader. After a series of events in Alingsås and later on Scandic Opalen, the first ”Ark exhibition” was arranged in 1994 at Arken Cenference Center. This large facility use to be the recreational center for the shipping industry in Gothenburg, with bowling courts and a swimming pool right next to a large exhibitions hall. The hifi exhibition was an instant succes, and since it occurs every other year peoples expectations have time to build up. The exhibitions in -94, -96, -98, -00 och -02 were all led by Olle and his companion Ove Andersson. In 2003 Olle passes away and Hificonsult gets a new owner, Ingmar Carlsson, and continues to set up the exhibitions with Ove in -04, -06 and -08. In 2009 Ove goes in to retirement and Ingmar runs the show from now on.
The Ark Hotel had new owners and little by little it started to transition into spa, yoga, massage and more and more rooms were taken from the hifi show. It is hard to play some kind of hifi in a room with a big pool or a sauna. On top of the fee for renting the whole facility they were charging an additional fee for having to close down the spa area. At the end this could not go on and 2014 was the last year for the exhibition at the Ark Conference Center. Since 2016 the exhibition is now located in two hotels in the centre of Gothenburg: Elite Park Avenue and Scandic Opalen. The distance between the hotels are just 500 meters (1600 feet) and on the same street. The name is also changed to ”Göteborg Hifishow”.
